A

All in – this is when the player does not have enough table stakes to "call" or "raise". In this case the player places the reminder of his/her wager in the pot. He/she is then eligible to win only that pot and is not qualified to win any later pots formed in that round of play.

Ante - Money that has been put into the pot before the deal takes place.


B

Blind – this is a compulsory bet that has to be made before any card is dealt.


C

Call – this means to make a wager that brings the player's total wager to that of the previous player.

Check – this is where the player does not make an opening bet and remains in the round of play. A player is only allow to check when no other players has a blind bet or that it is an opening bet for that round of betting.

Community Card – this is where cards dealt face-up to the centre of the table (not to any one player) that is shared and used by all players for their possible hand.

Flop – this refers to the dealing for the first three face-cards on the table, or to those three cards themselves. They are turned up all at once and start the second round of betting.

Fold – it is the decision made by the player who no longer wishes to continue with their hand for that round of play.

Hole Cards – this is the original two card dealt to each player.

Pot - meaning the total of all wagers made in that round of play.

Raise – this means that to make a bet greater than the amount of the previous wager made.

River - this is the last round of betting, and the last fifth community card. When the river card is placed on the broad, the dealing is completed. It is then followed by final betting and winner is then decided and the pot is awarded to the winner.


S

String Betting – this is when the player does not place their entire wager in one movement. He/she does not verbally announce their intentions.


T

Turn – this is the fourth community card placed on the table after the betting of the flop is concluded. The betting on the turn is the third round of betting and at twice the stakes of the first two rounds.
